Saigon
Saigon also known as Ho Chi Minh City is located in the south of Vietnam. It is the largest city in Vietnam, busy and modern teeming with markets, restaurants, bars and cafes all combined with the timeless traditions of an ancient culture. Known to the French in colonial times as the ‘pearl of the far east’. Their stamp on it evident through the grand old buildings dotted around the city (check out the central post office) and wide leafy boulevards.
High rise buildings now pepper the skyline. International hotel brands and chic fashion outlets along with a selection of fine restaurants are commonplace. All this sitting alongside the old traditional influences. Street vendors and markets are always about but nowadays they find themselves competing with trendy cafes and shops. Traffic can be chaotic in the city so best to avail of the local taxis, motorcycle taxis or ‘cyclos’ (local 3-wheeled bicycle taxis!) to get around rather than risking it yourself! Top tourist attractions include the Independence Palace, Notre Dame Cathedral, Jade Emperor Pagoda and Ben Thanh Market. Make sure to brush up on your haggling skills before you hit the markets!
This emerging modern metropolis is a great place to sample Vietnam in all its glory. It’s also a great place for further Vietnam excursions including the famous Mekong Delta and beyond. Call the Sunway sales team who will gladly tailor make an itinerary to suit your needs.
