Koh Samui
Koh Samui is the third largest island resort and a true sun lover’s paradise. It is located on the south east coast and just one hour flying time from Bangkok. It is known rather exotically as ‘Coconut Island’ thanks to its lush hinterland of coconut plantations. A small and naturally beautiful island with long white sand beaches backed by the arching fringes of palm trees. It offers a delightful variety to its beaches, making this an ideal destination catering for most travellers' tastes and budgets, be it a lively beachfront ambiance or a secluded island hideaway.
Chaweng is the largest, busiest beach resort on the island. Located on the east coast and protected by a coral reef, it offers a wide range of water sports including windsurfing, canoeing and scuba diving to name just a few. With powder soft sand and clear waters it is no wonder the beach is the main draw of the town. There are plenty of shopping opportunities between the lively markets and boutiques. Restaurants and bars are in abundance and the town really comes alive at night.
Lamai is the next lively resort to Chaweng and slightly smaller than its neighbour. The town of Bophut offers a beautiful beach, a cluster of upmarket hotel resorts and fine restaurants in a quieter location. Typically speaking Bophut attracts couples and families. As the island is so small it is easy to get around and visit other resorts should you wish.
