We are delighted to offer a tour to Croatia on the Adriatic coast. With more than 1700 kilometers of coastline, hundreds of little islands, and one of the best climates in Europe. Croatia is a perfect destination. We will stay in Makarska, which in our opinion is one the most gorgeous towns on the Adriatic coast. It was founded by the ancient Greeks and has a traditional harbour which serves as the focal point for its long fishing tradition, as well as providing easy access to the beautiful islands that dot the coastline.

Nestled around a beautiful horseshoe-shaped bay, dominated by dramatic mountains. It’s a gem of a town with fashionable cafes, restaurants, bars, market stalls and shops. The narrow stone paved streets and terracotta roof tops are rich in history with many historical monuments including the 16th Century Franciscan Monastery and St Mark’s Cathedral in the main square.

Itinerary

Day 1 - Fly to Croatia

We depart Dublin Airport for our direct flight to Split. On arrival you will be met by our tour leader and then you will be transferred by coach to the hotel in Makarska where we will be staying for the next 7 nights.

Day 2 - Walking tour of Makarska

After breakfast our tour guide will take you on a short walking tour of Makarska and there is so much to experience. Makarska as the name suggests is the largest town in the Makarska Riviera and the region is dominated by large stretches of unspoilt beaches, crystal clear waters and small, picturesque fishing villages. Our guide will point out the major attractions plus some favourite bars and restaurants, plus the best shopping area. The afternoon is free to soak up the atmosphere of this beautiful town.

Day 3 - Medjugorje

After enjoying breakfast, we travel inland for a full day excursion to Medjugorje in Bosnia Herzegovina, this truly spiritual place, one of the most famous places of pilgrimage in the world attracting millions of visitors since 1981. Even if you are not religious you will enjoy the lovely drive through the Croatian countryside. Prices are very reasonable in Medjugorje, and all the businesses accept the Euro. Remember to bring your passport for this excursion.

Day 4 - Day at leisure

We have another free day to soak up the atmosphere of Makarska.

Day 5 - Dubrovnik

After enjoying breakfast, we travel to the old walled city of Dubrovnik. It is known for its distinctive Old Town encircled with massive stone walls completed in the 16th century. It is hard to imagine anyone becoming jaded by its marble streets, baroque buildings, and the endless shimmer of the Adriatic Sea. “Those who seek paradise on Earth should come to Dubrovnik” said George Bernard Shaw. The coach journey to Dubrovnik is one of the most stunning in Europe. We return to our hotel in the late afternoon giving you plenty of time to enjoy this historic city. Remember to bring your passport for this excursion.

Day 6 - Day at leisure

Another day of leisure to enjoy the many delights of Makarska and its surroundings. Our tour guide can recommend a boat trip to the neighbouring islands if you wish.

Day 7 - Day at leisure

Free Day to relax and pick up some last minute souvenirs.

Day 8 - Split & Fly home

After breakfast we will check out from the hotel. Today we take another stunning drive north along the coat passing the Dalmatian islands of Hvar and Brac and proceed to the ancient city of Split. The old part is built in and around the Palace of the Roman Emperor Diokletian who had it built in the beginning of the 4th century. We will be taking a walk through the old part of the town which is famous for its Roman remains and home to one of the oldest cathedrals in the world, the Cathedral of St Duje. Split is a lot cheaper than Dubrovnik and you will enjoy the lively city market. We will travel to Split where we will have some free time before we transfer to the Airport for our return flight back to Dublin.

Croatia has a typical Mediterranean climate and the average temperature of 22° in May & October
