Fully Guided

Experience the charm of one of Europe's last undiscovered treasures—Bosnia and Herzegovina. This captivating country is a land of contrasts, where East meets West, cultures and religions harmoniously blend, and breathtaking scenery awaits at every turn. Although the remnants of the 1990s Balkan Wars are still visible, Bosnia has emerged stronger and remains a fascinating destination to explore.

Our tour will start in Croatia, where we’ll enjoy an overnight stay on the shores of the Adriatic before travelling to Bosnia’s capital Sarajevo, a cultural melting pot steeped in a complex yet enthralling history. We will then spend two days in Mostar, uncovering the rich heritage and natural beauty of Herzegovina. To conclude, we’ll explore the stunning Croatian town of Split, home to Diocletian’s Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the best-preserved Roman monuments in the world.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Travel to Croatia

Leave Dublin airport today for our direct flight from Dublin to Split, Croatia. Upon arrival we will be welcomed by our tour leader and local guide and travel to our hotel in Mararska. (Travel time/distance approx. 1.5hrs // 115km) Located on the glittering blue waters of the Adriatic you will have the afternoon at leisure here to unwind and to either relax beside the pool or a stroll through the local historic town.
This evening, meet our fellow travellers for a welcome dinner in the hotel’s restaurant a perfect opportunity to get acquainted before the journey ahead.

Day 2 – Kravice Waterfalls, Medjugorje, Jablanica and Sarajevo

Today we embark on our journey across the border from Croatia into Bosnia and Herzegovina. On the way we will stop to admire one of the most beautiful scenic areas in southern Bosnia at Kravice Waterfalls, a natural wonder where 25-metre cascades spill into emerald pools, all surrounded by lush forests.
Next, we will travel to Medjugorje a world-renowned pilgrimage site since 1981, when local children claimed to have seen visions of the Virgin Mary. Explore this spiritual town before continuing to Jablanica, a historic site known for the bridge famously destroyed during World War II. You’ll have free time here to discover the town’s rich history at your own pace.
In the afternoon, we will arrive in Sarajevo, Bosnia’s capital. Settle into our hotel and explore some of the local restaurants for dinner at your leisure. (Today’s travel time/distance approx. 5hrs // 235km)

Day 3 – Sarajevo city tour

Today, we will immerse ourselves in a full-day city tour of Sarajevo, where East meets West in a captivating blend of cultures. This vibrant capital is a mosaic of architectural styles, where the ornate Austro-Hungarian buildings stand side by side with Ottoman-era domes and minarets. Our first stop will be the Sarajevo Tunnel Museum, also known as the Tunnel of Hope. This historic tunnel, used to smuggle supplies during the siege of Sarajevo in the Bosnian War, offers a powerful insight into the city's perseverance during its darkest days. We will then return to Sarajevo and take a scenic ride on the newly rebuilt Sarajevo cable car, which symbolises the city's resilience after the devastation of the Bosnian War. We will admire breathtaking views of the city nestled in the valley below and discover remains of Serbian sniper positions from the war and the abandoned bobsled track, once a proud feature of the 1984 Winter Olympics. In the afternoon we will continue our journey through Sarajevo’s historic streets through Bascarsija, the city’s old bazaar. Marvel at the mosques, bazaars and cathedrals, and stand on the historic Latin Bridge, famously known for its connection to World War I.

Day 4 – Konjic and Mostar

Today, we leave Sarajevo and head towards the charming town of Mostar. On the way we will stop at Konjic, home to Tito’s Bunker a secret Cold War-era underground hideaway built to protect the Yugoslav president and his inner circle from potential atomic attacks. This visit will give us an intriguing glimpse into Bosnia’s communist past.
As we leave Konjic, we will drive through Bosnia and Herzegovina's breathtaking landscapes, featuring rolling hills, mountains, and rivers. In the afternoon we will arrive to Mostar and visit its major sights. The crown jewel of Mostar is the Stari Most, a stunning stone bridge built in the 16th century by the Ottomans. This UNESCO World Heritage site arches gracefully over the turquoise waters of the Neretva River. The bridge is not only an architectural marvel but also a symbol of the city’s history and resilience, having been destroyed during the Bosnian War and later reconstructed.
We will then check into our hotel in Mostar and our base for the next two nights. Speak to your local guide about some recommendations for dinner tonight to try some local Bosnian food. (Today’s travel time/distance approx. 2.5hrs // 127km)

Day 5 – Blagaj and Pocitelj

Today, we’ll explore the breathtaking landscapes of Bosnia’s Herzegovina region. First, we will visit Blagaj and the source of the Buna River, one of Europe’s largest and most beautiful springs. Here, nestled against the base of a towering cliff, stands the Blagaj Tekija, a Dervish monastery dating back to around 1520. This serene retreat, with its blend of Ottoman and Mediterranean architecture, boasts whitewashed walls and wooden balconies that seem to float above the crystal-clear waters of the river.
Next, we will visit the town of Pocitelj, dramatically perched on a hillside overlooking the Neretva River. Walk through Pocitelj’s narrow, winding, stone-paved streets and admire town's architecture, a stunning mix of medieval and Ottoman influences, with stone houses and fortifications blending harmoniously into the surrounding landscape. We will then return to Mostar for an evening at leisure. (Today’s travel time/distance approx. 2 hrs // 75km)

Day 6 – Split and fly home

Enjoy a leisurely morning in Mostar, with time for some last-minute sightseeing or shopping before we head back to Croatia. (Travel time/distance approx. 2.5 hrs // 170km) Upon arrival in Split, we’ll embark on a walking tour of the Old Town, centred around the grand Diocletian’s Palace. This ancient complex, once the retirement villa of the Roman emperor Diocletian, is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Have some time at leisure to explore the shops, bars and restaurants built in the arches of these ruins before a farewell dinner in a local restaurant and then travel to the airport for out flight back to Dublin.
