Embark on an unforgettable journey with Ciara Kelly as you complete the last 100km of the renowned Santiago de Compostela walk. This unique trip offers the perfect blend of adventure, camaraderie, and cultural immersion, all meticulously organised to ensure a seamless and enriching experience, all while enjoying plenty of chats and laughs along the way.
Day 1
We depart Dublin on our direct flight to Santiago de Compostela. On arrival you will be met by your local leader, then transferred by coach to Sarria (coach transfer is about 1.5 hours), a charming town and popular starting point for the Camino.
Check into your hotel, enjoy an evening meal & welcome drink with the group.
Day 2
You will have breakfast at your accommodation and depart for the beginning of your Camino adventure.
Your walk today will take you from Sarria to Portomarín (23km) at your own pace. Portomarín is a small village that was moved and rebuilt in the 1960s. You can see some remains of the old village, the church of San Xoán and the Roman bridge when the water level is low.
Day 3
Start your day with breakfast and get ready for another day of beauty. You will depart from Portomarín and set off for Palas de Rei (23km), Palas de Rei translates to ‘Palace of the King’. The town and its surroundings are dotted with medieval architecture, including churches, castles, and ancient bridges.
Day 4
After breakfast get ready for day 4 as you depart Palas de Rei and at your leisure make your way to Melide (15km). Melide is a picturesque town that played a crucial role in the development of the camino route to Santiago de Compostela. Melide is famous for its pulpo a la gallega (Galician-style octopus), often considered some of the best in Galicia.
Day 5
Begin your day with breakfast as this morning you will stroll the outskirts of Melide town and into the countryside and onto Arzúa (13km). Arzúa offers a welcoming and vibrant atmosphere for pilgrims. It’s Known for its rich cultural heritage, scenic landscapes, and gastronomic delights.
Day 6
Fuel up with breakfast for your 6th day of walking. Today you will leave Arzúa behind and soak up the lush green landscapes on route to Pedrouzo (18km). Pedrouzo, also known as O Pedrouzo, is renowned for its picturesque surroundings. The town has a more contemporary feel, with many of its facilities and services developed to cater to the needs of pilgrims.
Day 7
Can you believe you have made it to day 7! (Well done). Make sure you don’t skip breakfast as you walk your final challenge from Pedrouzo to Santiago de Compostela (20km).
Santiago de Compostela is the endpoint of the Camino de Santiago!
The arrival of pilgrims at their final stop in Santiago de Compostela after completing the Camino de Santiago is an emotionally charged and exhilarating experience. The first sight of the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is a magical moment. For many, this iconic structure has been a symbol of their goal and seeing it in person can be overwhelming. Make the most of your time in this fascinating town and be proud of such an amazing achievement.
Day 8
After breakfast you will have some free time for some last minute souvenir shopping before being transferred to the airport by coach for your return flight home.
Practical Information
- Luggage Transfers:Your luggage will be transported between accommodations each day, pick up is normally @ 8am.
- Accommodations:
You will stay in comfortable hotels and pensions, providing a restful end to each day’s trek.
- Walking:
Enjoy the flexibility of this self-paced journey with friends and fellow walkers along the trail. Make stops along the way for a snack and tea or coffee, there are plenty of resting places and toilet facilities on route.
Most of all don’t forget to take a moment every now and then to admire your beautiful surroundings.
Top Tips
- Prepare a day pack for each morning containing Water, Blister plasters, medication if required during the day, spare socks, raincoat, snacks etc (keep it as light as possible as you will be carrying this one along the way)- Ensure you pack comfortable, waterproof walking shoes and be sure they are well worn before your trip. Bring some cash as the smaller villages along the way don’t accept card.
