Itinerary

Day 1 – Travel to Tenerife

Time to head to Tenerife on our weeklong cycling holiday in the Canaries Islands. We’ll take a direct flight from Dublin to Tenerife and upon arrival we’ll travel to our hotel, the Barceló Tenerife Hotel located on Tenerife’s south coast. With its prime seafront location, multiple pools, bars, and restaurants, the Barcelo Tenerife Hotel is a perfect place to unwind after exploring Tenerife’s hills.
This evening, we will meet our expert local cycling guides to chat about the week ahead. You’ll also have a chance to dial in your setup and collect your rental bike if needed. With the excitement building, it’s time to gear up for an epic week ahead!

Day 2 – Warm up ride up Vilaflor

Fuel up with a hearty breakfast before we mount our bikes and head towards Vilaflor, Tenerife’s highest village. This climb is the perfect way to loosen up those legs and get a feel for the week ahead, with steady gradients that’ll ease you into the adventure. Upon reaching Vilaflor, we’ll take a well-earned coffee break in the charming town square, where we'll enjoy panoramic views of terraced farms and local vineyards. After soaking in the atmosphere, it’s a thrilling descent back to the hotel, with sweeping views of the coastline to guide us downhill.

LONG RIDE: 75km – 1,500m ascent
MEDIUM RIDE: 60km – 1,400m ascent
SHORT RIDE: 55km – 1,000m ascent

Day 3- First climb up Mount Teide

Today, we face one of Tenerife’s most iconic cycling challenges: the ascent into the foothills of Mt. Teide and Teide National Park. Dominated by Spain's highest peak, this UNESCO World Heritage Site offers some of the most extraordinary volcanic scenery in the world. Starting from the island’s western coast, we’ll ascend the steady 5-6% gradient leading to the national park. As you climb, the scenery transitions from lush forest to a surreal, almost lunar world, with jagged rock formations and vast open views. Reaching the higher altitudes, you’ll find yourself cycling through one of the most unique environments on earth. Remember to pace yourself—this climb is as much about endurance as it is about the breathtaking scenery. After conquering the climb, we’ll descend and return to the hotel, where you can unwind in the pool, letting your legs recover after an exhilarating day in the saddle.

LONG RIDE: 110km – 2,600m ascent
MEDIUM RIDE: 90km – 2,200m ascent
SHORT RIDE: 75km – 1,500m ascent

Day 4 – Eastern Tenerife cycle

Today’s ride offers a more relaxed pace as we explore the eastern side of Tenerife. This scenic route takes us along a historic road, once the primary link between the island’s north and south. Now with minimal traffic, it’s a cyclist’s haven. The ride will lead us to the charming Tempus Bodega, where a well-deserved Canarian lunch and wine tasting awaits. The road itself is smooth and scenic, offering gorgeous views of the Atlantic Ocean, but don’t be fooled—the last kilometre leading up to the Bodega throws in a punchy climb. Push through, and we'll be rewarded with not only incredible food but also some of the island’s finest local wine.

LONG RIDE: 75km – 1,600m ascent
MEDIUM RIDE: 62km – 1,100m ascent
SHORT RIDE: 50km – 900m ascent

Day 5- Second climb up Mt Teide

Brace ourselves for the toughest ride of the week, a second time exploring the foothills of Mt Teide and Teide National Park, this time approaching from the south. The route retraces our earlier path as we climb past Vilaflor, then continue into the heart of Teide National Park. As we power through the steady climb, we’ll be surrounded by dramatic volcanic landscapes—rock formations, ancient lava flows, and a wide-open lunar-like expanse. The roads here are smooth but relentless, with rolling sections to keep our legs working. We’ll stop for a much-needed coffee before descending the same way back to our hotel, allowing us to enjoy the breathtaking descent after a day of pure elevation gain.

LONG RIDE: 135km – 3,000m ascent
MEDIUM RIDE: 105km – 2,400m ascent
SHORT RIDE: 75km – 1,500m ascent

Day 6 – Teno National Park, Masca, Garachico & Las Cruces

Today’s ride takes us into the lush green heart of Teno National Park—a paradise for cyclists craving adventure and nature. We’ll start by riding over to Chio in the island’s northwest, then tackle the thrilling descent down the famous switchbacks into the hidden village of Masca, surrounded by towering cliffs and deep valleys. This descent is pure cycling bliss, with tight turns and jaw-dropping scenery. After Masca, the route flows through remote landscapes to the coastal town of Garachico, where you can feel the fresh ocean breeze. But the day isn’t over yet—our final challenge is the peaceful yet challenging climb of Las Cruces.

LONG RIDE: 65km – 1,800m ascent
MEDIUM RIDE: 50km – 1,200m ascent
SHORT RIDE: 40km – 1,000m ascent

From there we will travel La Oratava for a fantastic paella party with our local guide’s family set in a traditional Canarian home with splendid views stretching down to the sea. The highlight of our evening will be getting to enjoy a huge paella, cooked in the traditional way by our hosts, a fitting end to a truly incredible day in the saddle.
Tonight we will check into our hotel in the centre of Tenerife’s capital Santa Cruz.

Day 7 – Anaga National Park

Prepare to see a different side of Tenerife as we head into the rugged northeast. Today’s route takes us up the Bailadero climb into the UNESCO-listed Anaga Natural Park. This stunning highland is characterized by jagged peaks, deep ravines, and a lush carpet of ancient laurel trees. As you ascend, the views just get better and better, offering glimpses of Mt. Teide in the distance. Anaga is a cycling gem, with winding roads and magical scenery, dotted with remote hamlets seemingly untouched by time. After descending into the UNESCO World Heritage city of La Laguna, you’ll have free time to explore and grab lunch before we wrap up our final ride back to Santa Cruz.

LONG RIDE: 70km – 1,900m ascent
MEDIUM: 65km – 1,400m ascent
SHORT: 45km – 1,000m ascent
