This historic pilgrimage path, once traversed by Queen Isabel of Portugal in the 13th century, will take you through lush forests, serene riversides, rural villages, and the historic towns of Pontevedra and Padrón. Itinerary
Day 1
Make your own way to your accommodation in Tui, located on the border between Spain and Portugal. Take some time to wander through Tui's picturesque streets, visiting the Plaza de San Fernando and the magnificent 12th-century Tui Cathedral. Don’t miss the opportunity to cross the international bridge spanning the River Minho, a symbolic link between the two countries. Relax and prepare for the adventure ahead.
Day 2
This morning after breakfast at your accommodation, lace up your hiking boots and embark on your Camino de Santiago walking holiday along the Portuguese Way. Follow peaceful woodland paths towards Camino de Barca, passing through the atmospheric Das Monxas tunnel. As you climb a steep hill, you'll reach the medieval San Telmo Bridge, offering a glimpse into the area's rich history. Continue onwards to O Porriño, a town known for its impressive granite quarries. Before settling in for the night, be sure to try the local specialty, O Porriño bread, prized for its unique flavour and texture.

Day 3
After breakfast you'll journey through the scenic Louro Valley, gently ascending towards the Santiaguino de Antas Chapel. Your path will wind through vast woodlands and past fragrant pine trees before descending into the charming seaside town of Redondela. Keep an eye out for the views of the coastline and the estuary of Vigo. Rest here tonight and discover one of the local restaurants in this town, known for their seafood.

Day 4
Today is an exciting day as you spend the day walking along the coast and the Bay of Vigo, making your way from Redondela to the historic town of Pontevedra. A stop to Arcade is well worth the time to taste some of their famous oysters. Cross the historic Pontesampaio Bridge, the site of Napoleon's defeat in the War of Independence, before arriving in Pontevedra. Spend the evening exploring the city's historical centre, with its atmospheric medieval squares and lively tapas bars.

Day 5
Today, you'll leave the coast behind and venture into the peaceful rural countryside of Galicia. Most of the day’s walk takes you through serene woodlands and along gentle river valleys, passing through small villages that offer a glimpse into traditional Galician life. Your destination is Caldas de Reis, a spa town famed for its thermal baths. Reward yourself for the day’s efforts by soaking your feet in the warm thermal springs at the main square, a true pilgrim's treat.
Walking distance 22km // walking time approximately 6-7 hours
Day 6
After breakfast, cross the river Umia and climb upwards through oak forests, paths among vineyards passing through tiny villages with charming Romanesque churches, such as the Church of Santa Mariña de Carracedo. The path then descends toward the River Fontenlo before leading you into Padrón, a town steeped in history. It is believed to be the arrival point of St. James’s body when it was brought to Santiago by ship. Padrón is also famous for its delicious peppers, a Galician delicacy that you won’t want to miss.

Day 7
Your final day of walking has arrived! Today’s route takes you through beautiful rural landscapes and small villages. Along the way, you'll pass the Sanctuary of Escravitude and reach Alto de O Milladoiro, where pilgrims traditionally knelt upon first seeing the Cathedral of Santiago. Finally, make your triumphant entry into the Plaza del Obradoiro, standing in awe before the glittering Santiago de Compostela Cathedral. Reflect on your incredible achievement as you bask in the glory of completing your pilgrimage. Do not forget to go to the Pilgrim’s Office with your Pilgrim Passport if you want to get your “Compostela” (Pilgrim Certificate).

Day 8
Your unforgettable Camino de Santiago holiday has come to an end. After breakfast, check out from your hotel and, if time allows, take a final stroll through the charming streets of Santiago's old town or attend the pilgrim’s mass at noon. Whether you're heading home or continuing your adventure, we hope you've enjoyed every moment of walking the Portuguese Way.

Practical Information
- Luggage Transfers:
Your luggage will be transported between accommodations each day, pick up is normally @ 8am.
- Accommodations:
You will stay in comfortable hotels and pensions(guesthouses), providing a restful end to each day’s trek. Each room has their own en-suite bathroom.
- Walking:
Enjoy the flexibility of this self-paced journey. Make stops along the way for a snack and tea or coffee, there are plenty of resting places and toilet facilities on route. Detailed walking notes will be provided as well as a 24 hour emergency phone number.
Most of all don’t forget to take a moment every now and then to admire your beautiful surroundings.
Top Tips
- Prepare a day pack for each morning containing Water, Blister plasters, medication if required during the day, spare socks, raincoat, snacks etc (keep it as light as possible as you will be carrying this one along the way)- Ensure you pack comfortable, waterproof walking boots or shoes and be sure they are well worn in before your trip. Bring some cash as the smaller villages along the way don’t accept card.
