Funchal

Madeira

Funchal is a charming mix of old and new elements that sit together in perfect harmony. The capital of the island has been settled since the early 15th Century and the old town with its colonial architecture, cobbled streets and Cathedral will have you transported back to those bygone times in moments. And yet only a stone's throw away you can find modern shopping malls, a chic marina and many eateries a la mode. The evenings in Funchal are another example of the city's ability to appeal to every taste. There's a dynamic club scene with live bands and DJs as well as cocktail bars and upmarket restaurants but not far away you'll find local bars and restaurants in more tranquil surroundings.

There are four beaches accessible to Funchal
● they are collectively known as the Praia Formosa. All are pebble beaches, well maintained and suitable for families. They are about 30 minutes walking distance from the town and are also served by bus and taxi. Bus will cost about €2 and a taxi about €7.

Transfer time from Funchal Airport approx. 20 mins.
