Alentejo - Evora

Lisbon, Portugal

Alentejo, the biggest region in Portugal and also the less populated one will surely amaze you with its beauty. You will discover a region packed with history & stunning landscapes as well as a shoreline of 170km, hosting beautiful beaches where you can relax and enjoy the sun.

Evora is located in the heart of Alentejo, halfway between Lisbon and the Estremadura region of Spain, it is also known as the capital of the Prodigal's south central region called the Museum city because of its monuments, some dating as far back as Roman times. Of the many sights there's the Gothic cathedral, built in phases up to the 18th century and with astounding 14th-century carvings of the apostles on its ogival portal.

Portugal is the world's largest producer of cork, and much of it comes from the Alentejo region. This industry is not for people in a hurry. It takes two decades before the trees can be harvested, and then their bark can be carefully stripped only once every nine years.

In the heart of the city, the square is an excellent meeting point with coffee shops, side walk cafes & shops. It is easy to find a restaurant to taste delicious food served with the world-wide reputed wines of the region of Alentejo. Among many traditional delicacies, dishes from this region still manage to stand out, almost invariably seasoned with condiments grown in Alentejo, coriander, mint, pennyroyal, oregano, olive oil, garlic, onions & laurel leaves.

Transfer from Lisbon airport approx. 1 hour 20 mins.
