Lagos

Algarve, Portugal

Lagos is gifted with a stunning coastline of towering cliffs, hidden coves and vast expanses of pristine sands. These glorious beaches are also varied; there are sheltered beaches for families, relaxed beaches for sunbathing, rugged beaches for exploring and windswept beaches for surfing. Within walking distance of the historic centre of Lagos are three wonderful beaches (Meia Praia, Praia Dona Ana and Praia do Camilo. All three are blue flag beaches. Meia Praia stretches for 4km (2.5 miles) from the marina to the Alvor estuary and is Lagos's main beach. Praia Dona Ana is sheltered by sandstone cliffs and lapped by calm turquoise waters, making it one of Lagos's most photogenic beaches. Praia do Camilo is even more idyllic, a 200 wooden-step descent takes you to velvety sands, backed by the Algarve's iconic golden cliffs. The calm, clear waters are perfect for swimming and snorkelling.

This part of the Algarve is drenched in Mediterranean sun. It's also brimming with fun activities, like surfing, dolphin watching, cave tours and mountain biking.

The castle and churches are impressive historic structures that complement the picturesque piazzas that pepper Lagos. The nightlife here is active and vibrant, offering visitors lots of choice in bars and clubs.

Lagos marina is home to a selection of restaurants and bars, many with outside seating and striking views of the boats. Fresh seafood and Frango piri are specialities.

Transfer from Faro airport approx. 1 hour.
